SEPTEMBER 11, 2022 (PICTURES) – For our Religious Education Faith Formation Program, parents have the option to choose the family sessions (FSF) on Sunday mornings or the children’s sessions on Monday or Tuesday early evening – In either option, parents are the primary catechists and leaders of faith for their children. For our first session of FSF on September 11, 2022…
To begin our session, all families and catechists gather in our parish’s small gym for a greeting and blessing from Fr. Frank and for opening year comments by FSF Leader Sarah Huie. Then we all pray our prayer of the month. Children then go to their classroom with their catechist, and parents go to the Commons for their faith formation time.
As parents gathered in the Commons, Fr. Frank affirmed their YES to God to guide their children to know our Lord and in living our Catholic faith. With encouragement, compassion, and firmness in truth, he explained about the crucial importance of keeping their promise to God at their child’s baptism and that their family needs to come to God’s Holy Mass every weekend.
During the parents’ faith formation, Leader Sarah Huie guides them in how to help their children understand this month’s topic of Revelation. Part of the session includes reading, reflecting on, and discussion with other parents of Scripture and what God is guiding us to do.
In other parts of the parent session, the parents are guided by Catholics, through videos (available on youtube)… such as Fr. Mike Schmitz who shared “Hope and Why Do We Need It” and Fr. Gary Caster through Franciscan Media who shared “What Mother Teresa Did Every Morning” which was starting the day saying “Good morning Jesus”. We are creating holy habits and spending time with God by doing simple easy tasks that become natural in our day.
We conclude our FSF session as Deacon Colin Huie, who teaches our Year 2 Confirmation Class, leads all parents, students, and catechists over the sound system in praying our Family Prayer and giving everyone a blessing.
