Young Peoples’ Liturgy of the Word

Liturgical Ministries

ATTENTION STUDENTS – We are having Student Lector Training Sessions on March 31 and April 1, 4 – CLICK HERE for more information.

Every Sunday throughout the year (except Palm Sunday and Easter), children of the parish (for all Pre-K through 4th Graders) are invited to participate in the Young Peoples’ Liturgy of the Word at both the 9 AM and 10:30 AM Masses. Before the First Reading the children are called forward, blessed and sent to the Chapel. They listen to the Word of the Lord proclaimed by their peers (our Student Lectors). Then, the YPLW Facilitator (a trained adult) leads a reflection/discussion on the readings and how they apply to the lives of the children. This takes place using language, props and symbols that the children can understand. After praying the Creed and offering their petitions, the children are then led back into church to join their families for the Liturgy of the Eucharist.

Children do not need to register to participate in YPLW. Just bring them to Mass and send them out to the chapel with the other children and facilitator.

To become a YPLW Facilitator or Student Lector, contact Pat Chuchla in the Worship Office, or call at 708-873-4652. Training and weekly scripts are provided.
