Year 2024 – Advent Community Service Projects

To Our Photo / Video Gallery 2024

DECEMBER 2024 (PICTURES) – Spreading God’s Love To Those In Need – We wish to thank the many ministries and parishioners at St. Michael that helped spread God’s love to people in need in our community this Advent. Here are just a few of the ways we were able to help many of our brothers and sisters.

Through the St. Michael Service Ministry’s Annual Sharing Tree and the generosity of many parishioners, hundreds of people served by six different outreach organizations received Christmas gifts, much-needed supplies, and gift cards for groceries and gas. The organizations you helped include:

  • St. Basil/Visitation Parish and Food Pantry;
  • St. Coletta’s of Illinois;
  • St. Michael’s St. Vincent de Paul Society;
  • The Learning Center;
  • Marillac Center; and
  • Oak Forest Nursing Home Ministry of St. Elizabeth of Hungary’s St. Vincent de Paul Society

St. Michael Parishioners made and/or purchased hundreds of blankets and goody bags that were given to the elderly residing at or served by Harmony Nursing Center in Palos Heights.

St. Michael Religious Education (RE) Families donated non-perishable food items, as well as monetary donations totaling $1,000, that went to Pro Labore Dei to feed the hungry among us. Our RE families also donated $950 that was used to purchase Christmas gifts for children served by our St. Vincent de Paul conference.

Our St. Vincent de Paul Conference provided all the fixings for Christmas dinner, plus three boxes of food and home goods to 39 families in need in Orland Township. Families also received wrapped gifts for their children and extra gift cards.

St. Michael Quest Families bought Christmas gifts for many children served by our sister parish St. Basil / Visitation.

St. Michael School Kindergarteners and their families created blessing bags for our homeless friends which contained many helpful items such as mittens, socks, scarves, granola bars, hand warmers water bottles, bandages and more.

The St. Michael School Community collected monetary donations for two Catholic dioceses serving people greatly affected by the hurricanes in Charlotte, North Carolina, and Tampa, Florida.

Thank You for being the Hands and Feet of Jesus during Advent!
