FEBRUARY 22, 2026 (PICTURES) – OCIA Second Step: Rite of Election or Enrollment of Names – At the beginning of Lent, the “Election” or “Enrollment of Names” is held at which having heard the testimony of godparents and catechists, with the catechumen confirming their intention, the Church discerns their state of preparation and decides whether they may proceed to the Paschal Sacraments. It is called “Election” because the admission made by the Church is founded on the election by God, in whose name the Church acts.
Congratulations to St. Michael and Our Lady of the Woods Candidates and Catechumen, who are now referred to as our “Elect.” They participated in the Rite of Election on February 22, 2026, at Holy Name Cathedral. We are rapidly approaching Holy Saturday, when they will receive sacraments and officially join our Catholic community. Please continue to pray for them in these final weeks.
