Parents having a first child between birth and the age of 7 baptized are required by the U.S. Bishops to attend a baptismal preparation session. Facilitators meet with couples for about 1.5 hours to speak about Baptism and the Baptismal Rite. They also convey to the parents their role as primary educators of the child in the Catholic faith and give suggestions for raising the child in the faith. Training of facilitators is provided. Facilitators must be practicing Catholics who have a good understanding of their own baptismal call and how to raise a Catholic child. Baptism Prep classes are held once a month, usually on the first Tuesday.
