JUNE 11 AND 12, 2020 (PICTURES) – Inspired on his feast day by St. Anthony, whose extraordinary love for the poor was expressed most often by his feeding the hungry, St. Michael Parish was blessed to donate 105 bags of groceries given to 105 families in Blue Island through the mission of Pro Labore Dei – Feed My Lambs, who set up in the parking lot of St. Donatus Church. What amazing work the Holy Spirit is doing through Ann and Tony and their ministry. Thank you to many parishioners and an extra big thank you to the Reyes family for your smiles and joyful generosity!
Before bags were given to God’s families who came by the site, Pro Labore Dei’s leader Ann led all present in prayer in English, followed by prayer in Spanish from Fr. Diego, to our Lord as we lovingly gazed upon Him in the Blessed Sacrament. As food bags and boxes of donated produce were placed in each vehicle in the drive up line, Ann continued praying the Hail Mary aloud for all present. As a vehicle is preparing to leave from the site with their groceries, a volunteer asks how we can pray for them and then prays the Hail Mary for the family.
As you will see in the photos, many volunteers served as Jesus’ hands and heart for the hungry. Pro Labore Dei serves the hungry every Saturday morning in Robbins and then Blue Island. Donations of bags of groceries, fresh produce, eggs, cheese, and milk for hungry families and are needed every week. You can reach out to Pro Labore Dei-Feed My Lambs Chicago on their website (pldchicago.org) or via Facebook to offer to donate groceries and/or your time on any Saturday morning.
