FEBRUARY 28 AND MARCH 1, 2021 (VIDEOS AND PICTURES) – “How Great Thou Art” with Speaker: Fr. Ed Shea, OFM – As we entered into the depth of Lent 2021, we dedicated a weekend to reflecting on the greatness of God and how that greatness has shaped our lives as individuals and as a Parish Family. Father Ed Shea OFM, a Franciscan from St. Peter’s in downtown Chicago, was with us to invite us to go deeper in our own spiritual journey – “28 DE FEBRERO Y 1 DE MARZO (VIDEOS) – “Qué Gran Arte” con Orador: Padre Ed Shea, OFM – Al prepararnos para la Cuaresma, dedicamos un fin de semana para reflexionar en la grandeza de Dios y cómo esta grandeza ha formado nuestra vida como individuos y como una familia parroquial. El Padre Ed Shea OFM, un franciscano de St. Peter, del centro de Chicago, estuvo con nosotros para invitarnos a profundizar en nuestra propia jornada espiritual.

- Sunday, February 28 at 7 PM – Night One in English – Topic: Open My Eyes, Lord – The movement from blindness to sight must have been an important theme in the early Church, as there are 6 different versions of the story in the Gospels. This Talk invited us to take seriously our own movement in the spiritual life, and invited us to allow the eyes of our hearts to continue to be enlightened (Ephesians 1:17) – Domingo 28 de Febrero a las 7 PM – Primera Noche en Inglés – Tema: Abre Mis Ojos, Señor – La parte de la ceguera a la vista debe haber sido un tema importante en la Iglesia primitiva, pues existen seis diferentes versiones de la historia en los Evangelios. Esta charla nos invitó a tomar con más seriedad nuestra propia inclinación en la vida espiritual e invitó a permitir que los ojos de nuestro corazón continúen siendo iluminados (Efesios l:17).
- Monday, March 1 at 7 PM – Night Two in Spanish – Topic: Juntos Como Hermanos (Together as Brothers and Sisters) – As you know, the Church is not a building, nor a structure, even the Pope says… It is a town, is people, we as brothers and sisters on our way to encounter the Lord. We reflected in our identity and our mission as Church in our world – Lunes 1 de Marzo a las 7 PM – Segunda Noche en Español – Tema: Juntos Como Hermanos – Como ustedes saben, la Iglesia no es un edificio, ni una estructura; hasta el Papa dice… es un pueblo, es gente, somos nosotros, como hermanos en camino hacia el encuentro del Señor. Nos reflejamos en nuestra identidad y nuestra misión como la Iglesia en el mundo.
ABOUT OUR SPEAKER – Franciscan Father Ed Shea is the third of eight children from St. Giles Parish in Oak Park. A 1974 graduate of Fenwick High School and a 1978 graduate of the University of Notre Dame, Father Shea joined the Franciscans in 1980 and was ordained a priest in 1987. Father Ed has spent most of his priesthood in parish work, including four years as the priest-presider for the St. Giles Family Mass Community in Oak Park, IL and five years as the pastor of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Joliet, IL. He was also pastor of St. Joseph Parish, a predominantly Hispanic community in Chicago’s famous Back of the Yards neighborhood. Father Ed has served on his Provincial Council and as Director of Vocations and Formation for the Franciscans of the Sacred Heart Province. Fr. Ed is currently stationed at St. Peter’s Church in downtown Chicago, and he’s been there since 2011. During the past several years he has done a good deal of itinerant preaching, in the Chicago area and beyond; he has spent some time living and working in Teutopolis, IL, and he even went on a couple of pilgrimages to Tanzania, Africa! A Franciscan priest who loves to sing and tell stories, more than anything he thrives on celebrating the sacraments of the Church. A true follower of St. Francis, Father Ed finds reasons to rejoice often in the goodness of God’s presence in our world – ACERCA DE NUESTRO ORADOR – El Padre Franciscano, Ed Shea, es el tercero de una familia de ocho hijos, de la parroquia de St. Giles en Oak park. Graduado en 1974 de Fenwick High School y graduado en 1978 de la Universidad de Notre Dame, se unió a los Franciscanos en 1980 y fue ordenado sacerdote en 1987. El Padre Ed ha pasado la mayor parte de su sacerdocio en la labor parroquial, incluyendo cuatro años como sacerdote celebrante para la comunidad de St. Giles en Oak Park, Il. y cinco años como párroco de St. John the Baptist Catholic Church en Joliet, Il.
