3rd-8th Graders, are you interested in becoming a Student Lector?
Three St. Michael’s Student Lector Program Training Sessions will be offered each month from September through May. Choose one. Children from any grade are accepted at any of the sessions.
The sessions in January 2025 will be:
- Tuesday, January 14 from 2–3:30 PM
- Wednesday, January 15 from 2–3:30 PM or from 4-5:15 PM
- Monthly Meetings will be held in the Church, Chapel, Ministry Rooms.
Students in Grades 3-8 from St. Michael School, St. Michael Religious Education and Students being home schooled are eligible to join.
Student lectors are responsible for proclaiming the Word of God at Young Peoples’ Liturgy of the Word (YPLW) on Sundays at the 9:30 AM Masses and at School and Religious Education Masses, prayer services and Sacramental Liturgies, and sometimes at other parish services. Training sessions are held once a month. A commitment to attending all training sessions is necessary.
Several adults train them to project, enunciate, and read with conviction, but we also instruct them in understanding what they are reading. They are broken down into several small groups for training. The older children will act as mentors to the younger students. Student lectors are eager to learn and their enthusiasm grows as they become more confident in their skills. Most importantly, these students are sharing their faith with others as they grow in their own faith. We are so proud of those student lectors who, after graduation, become lectors at our weekend Masses!
