ARCHDIOCESAN PLANNED GIVING

Please consider making a Legacy Gift to our parish

as a reflection of Christ’s Love for us all!

Jesus told us “whatever you do for the least of my brothers, you do for me.” So every day, we have the opportunity to see the face of Jesus in others and be the face of Jesus to others.

St. Michael Parish and the Archdiocese steward your gifts in many ways. Please continue to keep “the least of our brothers” in your prayers, and pray for the wisdom and strength to recognize those needs. One of the ways you can provide support is through a gift from your:

  • Will or Trust
  • Retirement Assets
  • Life Insurance Policies, or
  • Charitable Gift Annuity, which provides you with fixed payments for life and remaining funds benefit our parish.

For more information, please contact Krystina M. Campbell, Planned Giving Officer, Archdiocese of Chicago, at 312-534-5404 or kcampbell@archchicago.org.

Please Consider a Gift to the Church that Pays You Back

As stewards of our faith, you can express your gratitude for God’s gifts and help ensure that God’s good work on earth continues by considering a gift to the Church that pays you back – A Charitable Gift Annuity. When you establish a charitable gift annuity with the archdiocese, not only will you receive fixed payments for life, but you can designate our parish, school or ministry – such as the Annual Catholic Appeal – as the remainder beneficiary.

How It Works:

  • Make a gift of $10,000 or more to the Archdiocese of Chicago. Fund your gift annuity with cash or securities.
  • Receive fixed payments for life – for yourself or a loved one age 60 or older. Payment rates are based upon the age of the annuitant at the time you establish the gift annuity.
  • Enjoy immediate and future tax benefits, including a federal income tax deduction for a portion of your gift, if you itemize. You can schedule payments according to your financial needs, and a portion of each annuity payment will be tax-free (through life expectancy). You may also reduce capital gains tax liability for gifts of appreciated securities.
  • The funds remaining after your lifetime will support our parish or school – as designated by you.

Please Consider Making a QCD Gift to Our Parish

Making a gift from your IRA can have benefits for you and for our parish. An IRA charitable rollover, also known as a qualified charitable distribution (QCD), allows individuals age 70½ or older to authorize their IRA administrator to make a direct transfer of funds from their IRA to qualified charities, tax-free.

There are three main benefits of giving with a QCD:

  1. If you are 72 years old or older, the amount you transfer can satisfy all or part of your required minimum distribution.
  2. The amount transferred directly to charity does not generate taxable income, which may reduce your annual income level. This may help lower your Medicare premiums and decrease the amount of Social Security that is subject to tax.
  3. Your gift will be immediately used, allowing you to see the impact of your gift now.

If you would like more information on making a QCD gift, please contact Diana Vitela, St. Michael Business Manager, at 708-873-4617 or dvitela@saintmike.com.

Retirement Plan Gifts for Our Parish

A tax-wise way you can make a gift from your retirement funds is to name St. Michael Parish as a beneficiary of your retirement account.

By naming St. Michael Parish as a beneficiary, you’ll provide crucial financial support to our parish and the entire value of your gift will be transferred to us free from federal estate and income tax. It costs nothing to change the beneficiary on your retirement plan and will mean everything to our future parish community.

It is very simple to name your parish and/or the Archdiocese of Chicago as a beneficiary. Start by requesting a change-of-beneficiary form from your account administrator or download the form from your provider’s website. Make your desired changes and return the form to your account administrator to establish your gift.

Please consult with your account administrator for more information, or contact Krystina M. Campbell, Planned Giving Officer, Archdiocese of Chicago, at 312-534-5404 or kcampbell@archchicago.org.

Please Remember St. Michael Parish in Your Will or Trust

When considering which charities to include in your will or trust, we hope you will remember St. Michael Parish. A bequest can be made to the parish using the following language:

“I give [insert specific dollar amount, or percentage of net or residuary] to The Catholic Bishop of Chicago, Tax ID #36-2170826, a corporation sole located in Chicago, Illinois, to be used for the benefit of St. Michael Parish, located in Chicago, Illinois. However, if St. Michael Parish ceases to exist in its current form, then to the new parish or parishes erected in its stead.”

If you have already included a gift to support our parish, school or the archdiocese, please let us know about your generous gift so we can ensure that your wishes are carried out as you intend.

For more information, please contact Krystina M. Campbell, Planned Giving Officer, Archdiocese of Chicago at 312-534-5404 or kcampbell@archchicago.org.

National Estate Planning Awareness – Third Week of October

Do you have an estate plan? If not, now is the perfect time to contact an estate planning professional to begin the process. If you already have a plan in place, it’s a good time to review it and make any needed modifications.

A well-coordinated estate plan consists of at least four important documents:

  1. Last Will and Testament and/or Trust
  2. Durable Power of Attorney for Finances
  3. Durable Power of Attorney for Health Care
  4. Living Will or Advanced Directive

Your will and/or trust formalizes your wishes on how and to whom you want your assets to be distributed upon your passing. Your powers of attorney allow you to nominate someone who will speak on your behalf if you are incapacitated or unable to care for yourself. A living will or advanced directive formalizes your wishes regarding medical care in the event you are terminally ill.

Please consult an attorney and financial advisor when creating your estate plan. For more information, please contact, or for a free step-by-step guide to reviewing your estate plan, please contact Krystina M. Campbell, Planned Giving Officer, Archdiocese of Chicago at 312-534-5404 or kcampbell@archchicago.org.

Please Consider a Life Insurance Gift for Our Parish

Do you have a life insurance policy you no longer need? Please consider instructing your life insurance agent to include St. Michael Parish as a primary or secondary beneficiary on your policy. By naming St. Michael Parish as beneficiary, you’ll provide crucial financial support and possibly qualify for tax benefits as well. It costs nothing to change the beneficiary on your policy and will mean everything to our future parish community.

Please consult your insurance agent to see if this is an option for you. For more information, please contact Krystina M. Campbell, Planned Giving Officer, Archdiocese of Chicago, at 312-534-5404 or kcampbell@archchicago.org, or visit giving.archchicago.org/cga.
