Class Days and Times 2026-2027

Our faith formation program is for children in grades 1 through 8 (or 9 or 10 if needed). For both program options listed below, going to Mass every Sunday is essential. Parent support and participation is essential. Parents lead their family’s faith journey, with our St. Michael Parish catechist team joining your family’s journey to support you as you grow in faith and love of our Lord.

With both options described here, parents will be leading their family in living our Catholic faith and supporting class lessons by praying together at home each day, going to Holy Mass every Sunday, reading and reflecting on four or five scripture stories each month, learning about a new virtue each month and working on an activity to grow in that virtue, helping their child with a review of each class lesson, and working with their child at home on any missed class lesson.

Option 1 = Sunday morning from 9:00 to 11:10 AM – This option is our ‘Families Sharing Faith’ (FSF)’ Program. Parents and child(ren) come together for class once each month. After some time for hospitality and a service project, we have some time to learn about the day’s session and the focus for the month ahead and and then have community prayer. Then, each grade level group of children goes with their catechist to a classroom for their faith formation session, while parents go to the parent class for adult faith formation. As families leave at the end of a class, they each take with them a family packet containing prayer focus for the month, a virtue activity to work on together, scripture stories to read and reflect on together as a family, and curriculum lessons to be completed at home by parents with their child. When families return for the next month’s class, they have the above completed faith work to turn in to their catechist.

Option 2 = Monday or Tuesday from 6:00 to 7:30 PM – This option is class for children and will meet two, three, or four times each month.  For most classes, parents bring their child for class at 5:45 PM and come back to pick up their child when class ends at 7:30 PM.  When you register you will choose either the Monday or the Tuesday class, remaining in that day’s class for the full year.  (If a situation or conflict arises, you can discuss that with the Coordinator of RE and work together to find the best solution, which usually includes attending the opposite day’s session in the weeks during the conflict period). A family lesson guide page is given to parents each month with a topic, prayers for the month, a virtue focus, and four or five scripture stories for reading and reflection.  Each student is given and works in at home with their parent a “Virtue and Scripture” booklet.  The “at home” work is turned in on a designated date in each month.  If a child misses any RE sessions, parents are expected to work on the missed lesson at home with their child and for the child to turn in that lesson’s work to their catechist at the next class.  There are 24 classes scheduled.  We do understand that “life happens”, that unplanned, unexpected emergencies and illness can occur that may cause a last-minute absence from one of the classes, but in general, children are expected to attend all class dates.  We do understand that some students may be participating in a school or community sports team and make a commitment to that team.  We ask that parents understand the importance of the commitment to their child’s faith formation at St. Michael’s and that your child attends all classes.

For both options 1 and 2, classes will begin in mid-September and conclude in April.
