The VIRTUES program was created by the Nashville Dominican Sisters of St. Cecilia. Virtues in Practice is a program for children in grades pre-kindergarten through eight to grow closer to Jesus by imitating His life and virtues. It is set up in such a way that a whole school studies the same virtue each month, to provide a whole-school (and at home, whole-family) focus. The program covers 27 virtues over a three-year cycle, with 81 saints held up as models of the virtues.
Our school students study a virtue of the month from September through May. The virtue of the month is presented through age-appropriate materials and activities. As each virtue is taught, saints who exemplify this virtue are studied. Our children from the youngest to the oldest love to learn about these everyday people who performed extraordinary acts of kindness to witness their love for Jesus Christ.
During each month, the homeroom teacher observes their students to see who truly models the month’s virtue… this “exemplary VIRTUES student” will receive a certificate and VIRTUES pencil on the last Friday of the month and have their picture taken with Mr. Paul Smith, our principal.
As part of the morning announcements, Mrs. Mata shares information, quotes, and classroom happenings about the virtue and saints of the month.
Please know that we will keep you in our prayers as we journey through VIRTUES. Please keep us in your prayers, also.
